Tibetan Buddhist Calendar

Rigpa’s Tibetan Calendar, first published in 1977, serves as a vital resource for Tibetan Buddhist practitioners.

While it has evolved over time through advances in art, design, and printing, its core purpose remains: to honour the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism—Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya, and Gelug—celebrate unique Tibetan Buddhist art, and guide practitioners in their daily spiritual lives.

About The Tibetan Calendar

The calendar follows the Phugpa tradition, calculated by Men Tsee Khang, the Tibetan Medical and Astro-science Institute in Dharamsala.

Deeply rooted in Tibetan astrology, the calendar reflects the intricate relationships between celestial movements and the rhythms of daily life. Each lunar day and weekday is marked as favourable, neutral, or unfavourable for specific activities, offering practical guidance for everything from major ceremonies to simple tasks like cutting one’s hair.

The calendar also includes important anniversaries, and significant practice days such as sojong, Tara Days, Guru Rinpoche Days, and duchens, helping practitioners stay connected to lineage, tradition, and auspicious timing.
